Places to Explore · Illinois
Open meadow paths, summer flowers, and wide valley views in Bull Valley, Illinois.
Photographs from my past visits follow the trails and the smaller discoveries along them, from coneflowers and spider webs to birds perched among the branches.

Protecting the beginnings of a creek
Boone Creek Conservation Area protects headwaters, wetlands, creek corridors, and uplands that help replenish groundwater. Hillside springs and seeps feed the creek throughout the year.
In these photographs, broad meadow views give way to close details: a flower head, a web between stems, or a bird on an exposed branch.

Take in the view
The observation deck offers viewing scopes and a place for picnicking. About two miles of hiking trails provide another way to explore.
The land was once used for farming and later by the Bull Valley Hunt Club. The Conservation District acquired parcels from 1999 to 2009 and opened the area to the public on June 22, 2013.
Flowers, birds & small discoveries
Purple Coneflower, Tall Ironweed, False Sunflower, and Orange Hawkweed add color to this collection. An Indigo Bunting and a flycatcher bring a glimpse of bird life, while a spider web rewards a closer look.

The flycatcher and white flower cluster are labeled broadly because these photographs don’t establish a confident species identification. Tap any image for a larger view.
