Getting there
The trailhead is at S58 W35820 County Road ZZ, Dousman, north of Eagle. A state park vehicle admission sticker is required. Check current access information before leaving.
This page explores the Scuppernong Trail System, reached from the Scuppernong Trailhead on County Highway ZZ. It has its own color-coded loops within Kettle Moraine State Forest–Southern Unit. The nearby Ice Age Trail connects with the area, but these loops are a separate hiking destination.
For photographs of the Ice Age Trail route, visit the Scuppernong Segment page. Scuppernong Springs Nature Trail is another nearby destination with a different trailhead.
Here, the photographs move from long, straight views between pine trunks to enclosed green paths, then down to flowers, ferns, and tiny mushrooms at ground level.
Long views between the pines give way to shaded bends, grassy paths, and leafy hardwood forest. This selection follows the changing scenery along the trails.

Yellow blossoms brighten the trailside greenery. Look closer for the smaller pink flowers of tick-trefoils and the developing pods of poke milkweed.
Some of the most interesting subjects are easy to walk past. Fern fronds, a rounded cushion of moss, and delicate mushrooms bring the forest floor into focus. The mushrooms are shown without a species identification.
Numbered junctions and colored markers appear throughout these photographs. Use the current official trail map when planning a route; the sign photographs record the trails as they looked during these visits.

The DNR lists the Red Loop at 2.3 miles and Orange Loop at 4.1 miles, both intermediate, and the Green Loop at 4.9 miles, advanced. Expect hills rather than a flat woodland stroll.
Parking, water, and a vault toilet are listed by the DNR. Bring your own drinking water and the current trail map. Follow the colored markers for your chosen loop.
Bikes are not permitted on this trail system. Keep pets on a physical leash no longer than 8 feet. Leave plants, moss, and mushrooms in place for others to enjoy.
