From woodland trails to the lake

Cliffside Park is a Racine County park in the Village of Caledonia. The county lists 233 acres, with a campground, picnic shelters, recreation areas, and trails. The park’s natural side includes woods, open fields, and views along the Lake Michigan bluffs.

Brian’s photographs follow the trails through leafless woods and tawny fields before turning toward the blue lake. With the canopy open, the shape of the land and glimpses of water become part of the walk.

Looking for it on a map? Cliffside Park is the official park name. The campground may appear as “Cliffside Park Campgrounds” or “Cliffside Campground.” Use 7320 Michna Road to locate the county park.

Lake Michigan & the bluffs

Lake views appear between bare branches, with waves meeting a narrow strip of shore below. These photographs show the landscape during Brian’s visit; they are not a guide to current shoreline access.

Woodland trails

Paths wind between trunks, fallen leaves, and wooded hollows. Mossy patches and fallen wood add smaller details to the broad woodland views.

Open fields & grassy paths

Beyond the trees, wider paths cross open ground bordered by dried grasses and shrubs. The change from sheltered woods to open sky gives this collection a different perspective on the park.

Small discoveries along the way

A shelf fungus on a fallen birch offers a closer look at the woodland. These two views show its upper surface and the way it projects from the log. The photographs are presented without a species identification.
