Green-winged Teal

A tiny dabbling duck that feeds along shallow wetland margins and in flooded fields.

Three Identification Clues

Very small and compact, with a short neck and relatively small bill.

Breeding males have a chestnut head with a green eye stripe; American males show a vertical white shoulder stripe.

Both sexes have a green wing patch, most easily seen in flight.
