Great Blue Heron

A tall wader that stalks shallow water and also hunts small animals on land.

Three Identification Clues

Very long legs and neck, with a large spear-shaped bill.

Most birds are blue-gray; adults have a dark stripe extending back from the eye.

Usually flies with the neck folded back and the legs trailing beyond the tail.
