Habitat: Stiff Gentian prefers full sun to light shade with moist to dry conditions and a somewhat barren soil containing clay or rocky material. Look for Stiff Gentian in hill prairies, upland savannas, thinly wooded slopes, rocky meadows, banks of streams in wooded areas, calcareous seeps, and edges of cliffs.
