A small woodland warbler whose distinctive undertail pattern is useful when the bird is overhead.

Three Identification Clues

Yellow underparts and white wing markings; breeding males have heavy black streaks below.

From below, the tail has a white base and a broad dark tip.

Females and fall birds are duller, often with a gray head and a pale eye-ring.
